Many factors interact to produce high risk of cardiovascular disease; these include: age (risk increases with increasing age), prior family history of cardiovascular disease, cholesterol level (risk increases with higher cholesterol), tobacco usage, diabetes, ethnic origin, stress, diet and exercise. The highest risk is associated with advanced age, high cholesterol, smoking and diabetes.
