BLOOD flow is as important as healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels in maintaining a healthy heart, experts have revealed. Blood flow has been branded the ‘third important pillar’ of cardiovascular health that people need to be aware of, but research has revealed few people realise that having smoothly-flowing blood is important.
“It’s something we all take for granted but, when it comes to how well your blood is transporting nutrients, oxygen, energy – life! – around your body, having a healthy fluid blood flow is an essential. But, did you know that it can age and it can be heavily influenced by external factors such as how much you exercise, what you eat, stress levels and even the weather?”.
“Symptoms of the menopause can last for around four years, but Dr Sarah Brewer, GP and author …has advised how women – especially those in their forties – could boost their health ahead of the change…Tomato juice offers unexpected benefits for menopausal women…Extracts from the clear jelly surrounding tomato seeds – which have been formed in a pill called Fruitflow – also reduce unwanted blood clotting and are as effective as mini-aspirin – but without the side effects”.
“Our bodies naturally produce chemicals which help to keep our platelets under control and circulating smoothly. The most potent of these is a tiny molecule called nitric oxide (NO). Unfortunately, NO production decreases with age, and the natural cardioprotection it gives us decreases too. Without its calming action, blood platelets become hyperactive…From the age of 40, we can all do with a helping hand to replace this lost protection, especially in the winter”.
“A supplement derived from tomatoes which experts said improves the flow of blood around the body could reduce the number of people who take a daily dose of aspirin ‘just in case’ of heart attacks…Researchers have compared the antiplatelet effects – of the supplement with the drug aspirin – finding the Fruitflow supplement was as effective as a single dose of the drug”.
“Cardiovascular disease is linked with unwanted blood clotting, and mini-aspirin is often prescribed to thin the blood by reducing the tendency for blood cell fragments (platelets) to clump together. A new tomato extract can do the same thing but without the risk of side effects that are associated with aspirin use”.
